We went there last year for Frans' last hike, that was before he moved to Holland. It is such a lovely area, so that when the chance came to do it again, I agreed.
I would have loved to do the long hike, but knew very well that this is beyond my capabilities. Thus I joined the group doing the shorter hike of about 5 km, participants were: Tania, Jenny, Dave, Tumi and me. It is the same hike I did with Oliver last time, so I knew I could do it. It was a pleasant hike with only one incident.
On the way back everybody, including Jenny, left me behind and galloped back to the stable. And when I got back the first question ask was "where is Jenny?". I had last seen her when we came out of the gorge. Right! Panic! Tania and Dave went off to search for her, I was to buggered to participate. Tania actually got a cell phone signal and received a location from Jenny. After a while I had recovered enough to get into the car to join the search. The PIN received from Jenny made no sense, it showed her to be near the gate and further north. So Tania told Jenny to just stay put. A full search party was sent out when the other group arrived back home. She was found very quickly by Michael sitting at the path of the long hike. She had obviously made the mistake of turning the wrong direction when she got to the fork, going left instead of right. Panic was over.
The others did the long hike of about 13km and I am very envious, they actually managed to get some swimming done, see picture.
We didn't do much the next day and home we went.
